Fleeing Russia after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a young filmmaker drifts through Berlin, Jericho, and Saint Petersburg, caught in a loop of failure, exile, and inertia. In the ruins of creative paralysis and fractured geographies — from bureaucratic Berlin to Palestine — Getting Lost is a tragicomic odyssey through dislocation, political fatigue, and the strange poetry of being unmoored.

Burned out after shooting in Romania, Moldova, and Transnistria, with a bad back, I just wanted to calmly submit my film Getting Lost to festivals. But the extreme heat — the canicule — is driving me crazy, paralyzing the submission process. The deadline is tomorrow, and absolutely nothing is ready. Submission Canicule is a blend of anxiety, the inability to make a choice, and the sweltering heat.

W or Vanishing explores nostalgia through distance.
Paysage is woven from landscape footage shot between March 2022 and August 2024.

About the director
ST. PETERSBURG → BERLIN
Fedor Kurekhin, born in St. Petersburg and now based in Berlin, works across film, theatre, and writing. He studied at Smolny College of St. Petersburg University / Bard College and trained as a theatre director at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, in Andrey Moguchiy's class. His work — on screen, on stage, and on the page — keeps returning to dislocation, post-memory, war, Russian toxic masculinity, and everyday absurdity, often built from a raw, DIY approach to archives, footage, and AI. As a theatre director he favors non-theatrical spaces — forests, winter beaches, rooftops — and has directed ceremonies for the Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award. He is also the author of several novels. Wrong Movement, the independent DIY film company behind these projects, was founded in 2025.
